The central vertical beam and the horizontal ones all work as arches in suspending the sectional cables. The longitudinal cables, with help from thicker concrete mass at the ends, help deal with the thrust outwards from the arches. Taking cues from the thickness of concrete, its orientation and reinforcement arrangement, we deduced that the structure keeps itself balanced using symmetry and arch logic. In addition, the whole system counteracts itself by pulling up in the center (to resist gravity) and pulling down along the sides (to resist uplift).

The design evolved through meetings with the clients. At every meeting, we produced a set of images that described the spaces as they were modeled in Archicad. Concurrently, we produced working drawings that we submitted to the city for verification of property rights. The approach in this design is concerned with efficient use of square footage. The plan is understood in quadrants, and the top left quadrant is eliminated in order to enter the house in the middle, thus reducing wasted circulation area. Another trick is the use of staggered levels with one flight of stairs leading to the kids’ room and another flight leading to the top floor with the master bedroom and guest room. The kitchen is also sunken almost two feet in rder to make it feel bigger and allow more views and light. Construction in Jerusalem is made of rigid materials (concrete and blocks) in order to support the required Jerusalem limestone cladding system. The window detail shows a box for rigid blinds built into the concrete wall.

The structure follows the typology of a spaceframe, here deployed for a double curvature of a plane. The nodes were developed parametrically in SolidWorks and are made up of 8 pieces, each laser cut into aluminum sheets and broken with a hydraulic break. The pieces were finally riveted together and then attached to each other using T-shaped struts. Infill panels varied from foamed aluminum to PaneLite donated by local manufacturers. The construction resulted in two complete prototypes that were hung by cables in the double-height storefront space in the Center.

Floating Labs is a series of variable interfaces between a path system and a material conservation system. These two meet in conditions that reveal new relationships between the scientist and the object of research, and between science and public. The path system is a disrupted set of piers that functions within and throughout the field of labs in order to put the scientists and public on the same plane of exploration.

A series of physical models for matrix studies, inspired by the work of such artists as Lee Bontecou and Tara Donovan, produced lessons about degrees of freedom within a striated system. The result is a centralized building that distributes into specific activities yet shows their integral relationship with each other.

Alternating between transportation and inhabitation, the system provides space that is only private when it needs to be. When space becomes an exchangeable commodity, its use is refined and attuned to location and time of need. Since the gondola system is so affordable as an infrastructural intervention and quick to install, it will easily be stretched to satisfy varying needs throughout the city. The business model of Gondola Housing combines the economic and spatial efficiencies of the Zip Car and Self- of Mini-Storage. Customization is the key to any successful modular product. In order to give people the option to pay for space and storage only when they use it, Gondola Housing isolates space from the utilities that activate it, allowing for a constantly changing formula:

space + container = activity

The main exporter of space is the housing block, which would either be a free-standing structure or a parasitic one on top of an existing structure, such as a parking lot. Rentals of gondolas into the transportation system would help finance the housing project as part of a new real estate market of mobile space.

in society. Following in the historical precedence of nuclear bunkers during the Cold War in America, and the Israeli building code adding the requirement of Mamads (safety rooms) in every new housing unit following the Persian Gulf War, this is a projection of these ideas into a post apocalyptic of a zombie infection. Informed by movies such as 28 Days Later and books like The Tipping Point, Viral Security is a system that protects itself from infection by effectively infecting the site with security systems. Tentacles feel out the surroundings to get readings from groups of pressure and infrared sensors planted like mines in the earth to identify an intrusion. The core is made of a "junkyard" of prefabricated bone-like rooms, connected through adjacent spaces. The architectural order of this house attempts to camouflage itself within its own system of Aggregation. Cellular mutations allow the formations to transform into stackable panels to create enclosure. Peripheral rooms are labs that face the zombie-traps in order to follow changes in the new species and to wane its hunger for human flesh by feeding it hufu, or human-based tofu.

The formal studies are an inquiry into the concept of a family of parts. Unlike a kit of parts, these are each unique and are a traceable mutation of recent generations. Also, the rendering quality of density and elasticity is explored in reading stiff elements for structure and softer, clumsier forms for parasitic infill. The traps are the moment where the strict separation is corrupted when an alarm is triggered, and folliage transforms into trunks, like a banyan tree, only instantaneous.

For a graffiti memory board, we used simple coding in an Arduino platform and provided modulating mechanisms such as a variable resistor for on-site calibration, with conductive spray used as a receiving surface. Another instance of the proximity sensor we developed was more finished as a product. It could be used for dark exhibition backlighting that will increase in intensity when approached by a body part, like a hand.

This building is to house different types and sizes of conferences to be supported with advanced AV/IT devices for projections and discourse. Among other tasks, I was in charge of designing the RCPs during the full construction documents phase of the project. Revit models were constantly exchanged with engineers in the effort to maintain the design intent of ceiling profiles, diffuser locations, and light arrangements, as well as other devices.
